'Collateral damage' by Katie Klein

Image
I didn't want to read this. After loving Cross my heart, I know this could absolutely shatter the perfect story. But it didn't. Finding out about Callie was a sore point for this book. I had nothing against her, just that she shouldn't have existed. I know that sounds harsh. But in the end she brought in an element of drama, that I think worked for its favor. Parker's character was in constant conflict over Jaden or Callie. It is hard to know how Klein manages to portray these emotions perfectly, leaving me feeling sorry for him. The song that I thought of while reading this was Collide by Howie day.

'Cross my heart' by Katie Klein

Jaden McEntyre: overachiever, 'save the world' attitude, Harvard bound, overall good girl. Parker Whalen: typical bad boy with a tarnished reputation. Put them together for an English project, and see to worlds collide. Words cannot express the love I have for this book. I have read it so many times, but it manages to grip me every time. The truth is that this is a perfectly ordinary story about two people who fell in love that shouldn't have. And still with Klein's awesome writing style, and the turn the story took at the end, it will leave you in pieces. I loved Jaden as a character. I think she was strong, and opinionated. Of course it was her too perfect-squeaky life that attracted her to Parker in the first place. He was unpredictable, dangerous, a self-proclaimed loner, that didn't care. There was definite character progression throughout the novel, Jaden starts to care less about what others thought of her. I don't think I even need to mention Parke...

'Windfall' by Jennifer. E Smith

Windfall... It is exactly what it says on the tin. Alice is helplessly in love with her best friend, Teddy. And she gives him the best present without even realising it, a winning lottery ticket. But as things start to look up for Teddy, their relationship suffers. All Alice wanted was love, she got a windfall instead. When I first started this book, I was convinced I would hate it. However as I continued reading, falling deeper into the characters lives, and I slowly fell in love with the simplicity and purity of this book. When it comes down to it, this book is about love. Love between family, friends. The story curved and although the ending is slightly predictable, it doesn't take the path you think it would. Alice has a a heavy past, with her parents death, is left staying with her Aunt and Uncles. Throughout this novel, she realises the love they have for her, and though she can't help but miss her parents, she sees the family that is standing right in front of her. ...

'One summer Paris' by Denise Grover Swank

Sophie Brooks and her brother, Eric, are forced to spend their summer in Paris, with their father and his new bride-to-be. Sophie wants to do anything but have to spend 8 weeks with their father who abandoned them just 6 months ago, but she has no choice. What makes matters worse is her stepsister, Camille, who tries everything in power to make this the summer of nightmares for Sophie. Enter a cute french boy, embarrassing situations, and exciting opportunities, and this will be the summer that Sophie never forgets. I absolutely adored this book. I related to Sophie's character, and the way Swank described her feelings and emotions made it feel like I was right there with her. Camille frustrated me profusely, adding tension and an element of drama to the story. There were times in this book where my teeth were clenched in anger, or tears in my eyes for heartbreak, and even giddily grinning in love. I just could not put this book down, and even sacrificed sleep to finish it. Tha...
